Carolyn Anderson Workshop

Prospectus

Three intensive workshop days with an emphasis on visual language that will include painting, demonstrations, discussions, and critiques. There will be two presentations, one on visual language and another on art history. We will discuss how we see, how the seeing affects our perception and our painting, and how we can work on seeing differently. There will also be discussion concerning edges, color temperature, patterns, and shapes. There will be a model (fixed subject with a fixed light), but we will also paint from reference material (any subject matter). carolynanderson.com

 Day 2: Friday 10am-4pm

In the morning, Antwan will do a 2-hour demonstration in oils.

We will talk about observation and the thought process involved in assessing the subject, and the importance of simplification in order to emphasize the beauty of the subject.

Antwan will talk about brushwork and staying loose while painting.

 [break for lunch 12-1pm]

Artists will have the choice of completing one larger painting or multiple smaller compositions. Antwan will make the rounds with one-on-one feedback.
